YANGON--Myanmar on Saturday confirmed its first case of swine flu, with state media reporting that a 13-year-old girl had tested positive for the virus on her return from Singapore.

"It is confirmed that A(H1N1) was found. The patient is being kept at Yangon General Hospital in a special room and given regular treatment," state television reported.

The television report said the girl, a Myanmar national, had flown home on flight SK585 on Friday afternoon showing no symptoms of illness.

But she then went to class with friends and after being spotted coughing by a teacher she was sent to Yangon General Hospital at 9:00 pm.

All her family and schoolfriends were also being kept under surveillance, the report said, while 91 passengers from her flight were being monitored along with staff from Yangon international airport's arrivals hall.
